About Avery Association for Exceptional Citizens, Inc., DBA Yellow Mountain Enterprises and Avery County Group Home.

Yellow Mountain Enterprises is an adult day vocational program and operates under the umbrella of Avery Association for Exceptional Citizens. AAEC is a 501-C3 Non-profit organization for developmentally disabled adults. AAEC also operates the Avery County Group Home, an adult supervised living facility.

Yellow Mountain Enterprises provides pre vocational and vocational skills for all of our consumers. YME works in collaboration with Vocational Rehabilitation and Watauga Opportunities, Inc. to provide community employment for qualified individuals.

Yellow Mountain Enterprises offers assistance with independent living skills and compensatory education, including an individualized computer skills class. The facility provides a wide range of classes to promote daily living skills. YME classes include life skills, social skills, educational classes and vocational training. Each session is designed to promote group participation and individualized ( one-on-one ) instruction. All classes and sessions are based on the individual's talents, needs and desires. YME also provides transportation for consumers.

Avery County Group Home is a licensed supervised living facility located in Newland, NC. The facility provides a clean, healthy and secure environment for six, age 18 and over, DD individuals. The home is staffed 24-hours a day with well trained, experienced personnel to help residents obtain the highest possible level of independent living.

Avery County Group Home Residents receive instruction and training in life skills, personal care, home care and financial management. All residents are encouraged to participate in community organizations and local events. The home also provides leisure and recreational opportunities for the residents.
