CARF Accreditation

Avery Association for Exceptional Citizens dba Yellow Mountain Enterprises, Avery County Group Home, and Yellow Mountain Treasure Box is pleased to be accredited by CARF International. CARF® International is an independent, nonprofit accreditor of health and human services. Through accreditation, CARF assists service providers in demonstrating value by the quality of their services and meeting internationally-recognized organizational and program standards.

Areas of Strength:

As the only provider of its kind in Newland, AAEC's services are greatly needed and are appreciated by the community.
The commitment of AAEC to its community, clients and personnel speaks to the organizations dedication to doing whatever is needed.
AAEC takes its status as a not-for-profit to heart, not only in its financial performance, but also in its relationship and practices of giving back to the community. It serves clients funded by various federal, Medicaid waiver, and state programs. It addition, the organization supplements operational funding through the operations of its thrift store and donates services to clients in the event of funding lapses and other significant events.
Board members, leadership, personnel, and clients of AAEC work as partners. Although the organizational chart sets forth a formal structure, stakeholders are equal on the ground, and the organization's true open-door policy means that all personnel are available at all times. Management responsibilities take a back seat to client care in the main facility, thrift stop, and community housing site.
The board of AAEC represents a diverse blend of community members with expertise that lends itself to supporting the leadership and personnel. Board members are committed not only to meeting on a regular basis and serving on board committees but also to advocacy and participation in fundraising and community outings.
The local newspaper has highlighted the needs and accomplishments of AAEC that keep it at the forefront of the community's attention. The organization has been honored with such distinctions as being the best place to work, being best nonprofit, and being best assisted living.
